Grade A — Strong Evidenceplant compoundmetabolic

Recommended Dosage

5001500 mg

With meals, split into 2-3 doses

Berberine is a bioactive compound extracted from several plants, including goldenseal, barberry, and Oregon grape. It's gained significant attention for its metabolic effects — multiple clinical trials show blood glucose reductions comparable to metformin, the first-line diabetes drug. Berberine activates AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase), often called the body's "metabolic master switch," which is also activated by exercise and caloric restriction.

TL;DR: Potent plant alkaloid with metformin-like effects on blood sugar. Also activates AMPK (longevity pathway). Multiple drug interactions.
